The village of Mura

The Village of Mura

More significant and relevant toponymy could not present the village of Mura, a hamlet of Puegnago, which best represents the oldest urban development module of rural development in the lower Garda area of Brescia. This is made up of characteristic residential units with their open spaces surrounded by walls, almost entirely made with the traditional construction technique of stone and with the use of yellow bricks for the finishing of the gates and windows. The old historical centre has developed around a massive late medieval building that shows rare and interesting architectural elements of the 13th-14th centuries, while almost the entire urban area is of the 14th / 15th century, with the presence of some manor houses dating back to the following historical periods. The village has its own church, dedicated to St. Joseph, with simple architectural lines replicating the building canons of the late Gothic period in Lombardy, which remained in the suburbs until the end of the fifteenth century. Inside the church there is the beautiful altar by the eclectic painter of the late Mannerism of Brescia Grazio Cossali with The Adoration of the Child with the Shepherds and St. Simon and the much venerated wooden statue of the Madonna and Child, a copy of an eighteenth-century original unfortunately stolen.

Villa Galnica

Overlooking the wonderful panorama of the Valtènesi and Lake Garda, the building called “Villa Galnica”, recently the object of an accurate restoration, consists of two separated units: the main one, built between the 17th and 19th century, formerly the residential seat of the Podestà, is currently used as the seat of consortia for the promotion of local products. The adjacent body, originally an agricultural house (including stables, barns, cellar and farmers’ residence) is now available to the public for cultural and recreational events. The complex also includes a park in which a vineyard of the native variety “Groppello” is being planted, from which the renowned wine of the same name is obtained. On the occasion of the FAI Days, images of the past and present history of the town of Puegnago del Garda will be projected in the Mastromauro room.
